Big Issue Magazine ISSUE 1588 - DURAN DURAN

Once pitched as the poster boys for a particular brand of Thatcherite excess, Duran Duran are now covering The Specials’ Ghost Town, the era’s biggest protest anthem. Making music is about rich escapism and experimentation, they think.

"I’ve come to see it as a force of unification," John Taylor tells us. "When the lights go down and whoever’s in the room becomes as one. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, what your age is, what your sex is, gender, ethnicity, you’re all moving to the same beat. That, to me, is us doing our bit.”

Read more from John Taylor and Nick Rhodes in the latest Big Issue, with an exclusive, never-before-seen portrait of the band on the cover.
