The Beatles Years Magazine Vol. 2

The Beatles Years is a four-part series that celebrates the life, music and legacy of the Fab Four.

This second volume, Movies, Mania and MBEs, focuses on the years 1964 to 1965. The volume opens with the band’s first visit to America, where the coast-to-coast broadcast of their iconic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show would galvanise their Stateside success.

Across this 132-page collector’s edition, we chart their exhilarating US and world tours, their prolific songwriting, the making of the films ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and ‘Help!’ and their appearance at the first ever stadium rock concert in front of 55,600 fans at Shea Stadium. “We were just so far away from the audience,” recalled Ringo Starr.

The Beatles Years volume 2 also examines how the band charmed the world’s press and how the bestowing of MBEs on them led to a backlash from the Establishment.

At the heart of it all though is the music and this volume provides track by track analysis of the four albums that culminated with ‘Rubber Soul’, the band’s first undisputed masterpiece. For many, 1964 to 1965 was the definitive era for the Fab Four. It was also one that would see them develop into one of the greatest creative and cultural forces the world has ever seen.
